With Sortly, items and heads count. With Scanwiz, only items do.
Both vendors tier their plans by the number of items managed. Sortly also caps user licenses: one in the Free plan, two in Advanced, five in Ultra, eight in Premium, twelve and more in Enterprise. More seats can be bought, but according to Sortly only up to a cap per plan.
With Scanwiz, users are unlimited in every plan. That matters wherever many hands take things out – in the practice, on the construction site, in the kitchen. Every booking stays assigned to a real person.

According to its help center, Sortly is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the US-West-2 region in Oregon, backups included. In its Trust Center, Sortly states that it is GDPR-compliant.
Scanwiz runs in certified data centers in Germany. User roles and tenant separation apply the same everywhere: web app, mobile app, REST API and AI access. Which location suits you depends on your data protection requirements – at the latest when items are assigned to people, the question is worth asking.

Batches & expiry dates
A date field on the item isn’t batch management yet.
Sortly describes expiry dates as a date-based custom field on the item, for which a reminder can be set up. Its help center also suggests batch numbers as a custom field. Batch management with separate stock per batch isn’t described in Sortly’s documentation.
In Scanwiz, every batch is its own stock – with number, expiry date, location and purchase price. When items are taken out, the batch is booked along with them. If a recall comes, you see who received something from it.

Yes. Both are cloud-based inventory management tools with a mobile app, barcode and QR scanning, minimum stock levels and stocktaking. Scanwiz includes unlimited users in every plan, is hosted in Germany and offers batch management with an expiry date per batch from Growth. Sortly, in turn, offers a free forever plan and ready-made integrations with QuickBooks Online, Slack and Amazon Business US, for example.
How much does Scanwiz cost compared with Sortly?
For up to 500 items, Scanwiz Starter and Sortly Advanced both cost $49 a month. For up to 2,000 items, it’s $165 for Scanwiz Growth and $149 for Sortly Ultra. With annual payment, Scanwiz gives 10% off; Sortly gives new customers 50% in year 1, then 20%. According to its help center, Sortly uses Amazon Web Services in the US-West-2 region (Oregon, USA), including for backups. Scanwiz is hosted in certified data centers in Germany and operated in compliance with the GDPR.
Can Sortly manage batches and expiry dates?
Sortly handles expiry dates via date-based custom fields on the item and sends reminders in the app or by email. Batch numbers can be stored as a custom field; the number of custom fields is capped per plan (1, 5, 10, 20, unlimited in Enterprise). From Growth, Scanwiz keeps every batch with its own stock, expiry date, location and purchase price and shows in a recall who received which batch.
Do both work without an internet connection?
Yes, with a difference in how it works. Sortly offers offline mode in the mobile apps, not in the web app; you pause sync in the settings and switch it back on later. In Scanwiz, scans and bookings are captured locally offline and transferred automatically once there’s a connection again.
Do I need a credit card for the trial?
Not with Scanwiz: you test it free for 14 days, with no obligation and no credit card. Sortly requires a credit card for its 14-day trial; the subscription starts automatically unless you cancel beforehand.
Can I move my data over from Sortly?
Yes. Sortly exports company data as CSV, XLS or PDF. You bring the spreadsheet into Scanwiz via Excel import and keep using your existing barcodes. The first stocktake in Scanwiz serves as your opening balance.
