Scanwiz vs. Odoo Inventory: stock control without an ERP project.

Odoo is a complete ERP: accounting, sales, manufacturing and inventory in one system, licensed per user. Scanwiz is the lean Odoo alternative for businesses that only need material and tools under control – with unlimited users, set up in an afternoon and an offline mode. Every detail about Odoo comes with a source.

At a glance

Scanwiz as an Odoo alternative: six differences that matter.

Both book stock by smartphone scan, manage batches and expiry dates, work in several languages and connect AI assistants via MCP. The difference is how much system you have to roll out for it.

Who can book

Scanwiz

Unlimited users in every plan – everyone who takes material gets their own login with full features.

Odoo Inventory

€24.90 per user and month. Light users cost €7.90 and may scan in the Barcode app, but not create products or manage stock.[1][2]

How you get started

Scanwiz

Sign up yourself, import your Excel list, get going. Personal onboarding on the Growth plan.

Odoo Inventory

Odoo is usually rolled out with a partner. One partner quotes from €6,999 for projects with standard modules.[1]

What gets counted

Scanwiz

Pricing depends on the number of items. Staff, profiles and locations cost nothing extra.

Odoo Inventory

Since Odoo 20, every active employee record without its own user counts as a light user – even without a login.[2][3]

Without signal

Scanwiz

Offline mode in the app: bookings and stocktakes carry on and sync once you’re connected again.

Odoo Inventory

According to Odoo, its offline mode is meant for short interruptions, not for working without a connection for longer.[4]

Tools & inspections

Scanwiz

Part of your stock: issue to people, vehicles and sites with a signature, inspection intervals with reminders on the same asset.

Odoo Inventory

Through the separate Maintenance app: equipment assigned to employees, preventive and corrective maintenance.[5] Light users have no access to it.[8]

Where your data lives

Scanwiz

Certified data centres in Germany.

Odoo Inventory

Odoo S.A. is based in Belgium; in Europe, Odoo.sh only offers a location in Belgium, none in Germany.[6] Self-hosting is possible on the Custom plan.

What does your first year cost?

See what the Odoo alternative costs compared with Odoo: set how many items you manage, how many people book and how many of them maintain products and stock. In Odoo, we count those as full users and everyone else as cheaper light users.

300

Determines your Scanwiz plan. In Odoo, the number of items doesn’t affect the price.

5

Everyone with their own login – in the stockroom, the office or on site.

2

Full users in Odoo. Anyone who only scans can be a light user.

List prices as published by the vendors and Odoo partners, as of 7 October 2026, both in euros (Odoo’s price list for Germany). Odoo on the Standard plan billed annually, with the introductory first-year price of €19.90 per full user; Scanwiz without the 10% annual discount.[1][2] Not included: Custom plan (Studio, API, multi-company), monthly billing, AI credits, hardware and taxes. The partner price is an example from a single provider.

Odoo alternative Scanwiz: a barcode label on a storage shelf being scanned with the app

      Day to day

A tool for the stockroom, not a system for the whole company.

Odoo plays to its strengths when inventory, purchasing, sales, manufacturing and accounting should all run in one system. That means setting up processes, roles and access rights – usually together with a partner.[1]

As an Odoo alternative, Scanwiz starts where material and tools move inside your own business: withdrawals by scan, handing out to people and sites with a signature, inspection dates on the asset, stocktaking at the shelf – even without signal. And because users cost nothing extra, everyone who takes something books it with full access.

      • Any smartphone or tablet, plus USB and Bluetooth scanners
      • Book offline, synced automatically once you’re back in signal
      • Set up yourself via Excel import, no rollout project

      Decision guide

      Which solution fits your business?

When Scanwiz is the right Odoo alternative – and when Odoo is the better choice. That’s part of an honest comparison.

      Scanwiz fits if …

      • you want to manage material and tools – not roll out an ERP.
      • everyone should book with full access, without a licence per head.
      • tools should carry handover, signature and inspection dates on the same asset.
      • people book in basements, containers or on site without signal.
      • you want to start this week, with your Excel list and no project.

      Odoo fits if …

      • inventory, purchasing, sales and accounting should run in one system.
      • you manufacture and need bills of materials, routings and quality checks.
      • you want to connect a web shop or point of sale directly to your stock.
      • you run complex warehouse logistics with routes, picking and multiple companies.
      • you have your own IT team or a partner for customisations.

Odoo for free exists too – with exactly one app.

If you only use Odoo Inventory, the “One App Free” plan costs nothing, with unlimited users. As soon as a second standalone app is added, such as Barcode, Maintenance or Purchase, the regular per-user price applies.[1][10] If you only maintain stock at a desk, it’s worth a look.

      Switching from Odoo

      Move over in an afternoon.

Switching to an Odoo alternative doesn’t have to be a project: your product list from Odoo is the template for Scanwiz. On the Growth plan, we set up categories, locations and the first profiles together with you in a personal onboarding. And if Odoo stays for accounting or sales, Scanwiz only takes over the stockroom and the tools.

      1. 01

        Export

Select products in Odoo’s product list and save them as an Excel file via “Export” – with category, barcode and quantity.

      2. 02

        Import

Bring in items, categories, locations, quantities and values via Excel import.

      3. 03

        Scan

Existing barcodes work straight away. Where there isn’t one, print QR labels for items or locations.

      4. 04

        Count

The first stocktake by scan checks the imported figures and becomes your opening stock.

      FAQ

Scanwiz as an Odoo alternative – quick answers.

How much does Odoo Inventory cost?

On its own, Odoo Inventory is free on the “One App Free” plan, with unlimited users. With further apps, the Standard plan applies: €24.90 per user and month billed annually, €19.90 in the first year (Odoo’s price list for Germany). The Custom plan with Studio, API and multi-company costs €44.90. Light users for scanning tasks cost €7.90 a month. A rollout project with a partner usually comes on top.

How much does Scanwiz cost by comparison?

Scanwiz costs €45 a month for up to 500 items and €145 for up to 2,000 items, each with unlimited users and a 10% discount for annual payment. Batches and expiry dates are included from Growth. You can try it free for 14 days, without a credit card.

What can a light user do in Odoo?

Light users were introduced with Odoo 20 at €7.90 a month. In the warehouse, according to Odoo’s pricing page, they may scan with the Barcode app but not create products or manage stock; the Inventory and Maintenance apps are hidden for them. In addition, every active employee record without its own user counts as a light user.

      Can I use Odoo offline?

Odoo has an offline mode but describes it as a solution for short interruptions, not for working without a connection long-term. Scanwiz captures bookings and stocktakes offline and syncs them automatically once you are connected again.

Is Scanwiz an Odoo alternative for the whole company?

No. Scanwiz doesn’t replace an ERP: it offers no accounting, sales or manufacturing. Scanwiz is the alternative for the part this page is about – stockroom, material and tools. If you keep Odoo for the other areas, you can use Scanwiz alongside it for your stock.

Can I switch from Odoo to Scanwiz?

Yes. Odoo exports lists as Excel files. Bring items, categories, locations, quantities and values into Scanwiz via Excel import. Your first stocktake by scan then becomes the opening stock.
